I.Brief Introduction
The Faculty of International Law, China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), was founded in 2002 on its predecessor, the Department of international Economic Law which was set up in 1989. Affiliated to the Faculty are the Research Institutes of Public International Law, Private International Law, and International Economic Law, as well as the Research Centers of International Law, International Trade Law, WTO Law, Trade Remedy Law, International Environmental Law, Shipping Law and European Union Law. The Faculty is the largest faculty in Chinese universities that specializes in international law. Endued with the important task of training experts in international law, the Faculty dedicates itself to research on issues at the cutting edge of the discipline of international law and strives to bring into full play its significant academic influence in the area of international law.
The current Dean of the Faculty is Professor John Shijian Mo.
II. Programs and Courses
Three programs are offered at the Faculty of International Law. Undergraduate students who are enrolled with the Faculty will receive a LLB degree upon graduation. The LLM program of the Faculty started in 1980 and the PhD program of the Faculty started in 1985. Graduate students are enrolled in one of the three Research Institutes of the Faculty for their LLM or PhD studies. At the end of 2005, more than 3000 LLB, LLM and PhD students had graduated from the Faculty. In 2006, the Faculty launched two new programs: LLM in Chinese and Comparative Law and PhD in International and Comparative Law. Both Programs are taught in English and offered to foreign citizens who wish to study Chinese law in English.
At both the undergraduate and graduate level, the Faculty offers a range of courses to all students of the CUPL. These courses include Public International Law, Private International Law, International Economic Law, international Finan- cial Law, Maritime Law, Conflict of Laws within the Greater China area, Principles of Japanese Commercial Law, International Law on Human Rights, International Tort Law, International Contract Law, Law on International Sales and Finance, International Civil Litigation and Arbitration, Introduction to Japanese Law, Comparative Insurance Law, Inter- national Taxation Law, Foreign Investment Law, WTO Legal System and European Union Law, etc.

The Faculty attaches great importance to the scientific research activities of students and exerts itself to create a good atmosphere for researches. In order to improve the knowledge structure of the students and enliven the atmosphere of scientific researches, it encourages the students to establish academic organizations, holds academic forums periodically, rewards those who excel in study, and frequently invites celebrated experts outside our university to give lectures.

The Faculty is staffed with a team not only with high academic standards but also highly devoted, qualified and cooperative. There are over 40 full-time teachers, including 15 professors, 20 associate professors and 6 lecturers. Most of the staff members are either holders of PhD degree or are candidates for PhD studies. Most of them have studied or visited foreign universities or research institutes.
V. Research Areas
The international law study of the Faculty was selected as a key discipline of the Ministry of Justice in 1998 and a key discipline of Beijing Municipality in 2002. The award of the key discipline status is very important to Chinese universities, be-cause the Government gives more financial support and other privileges to these key disciplines.
The Faculty always keeps its characteristics of doing research on both international law and many other inter-disciplines and integrating theory with practice. After years of academic accumulation and faculty building, it is not only in the lead domestically but also capable of communicating with foreign scholars in a number of areas of legal research, such as the Law of Seas, International Criminal Law, Shipping Law, WTO law and arbitration law, etc.
VI. Research Programs and Achievements
The Faculty has undertaken and accomplished quite a number of research projects, having received funding support from a wide range of sources, such as the National Fund for Social Science Study; the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Commerce and different organizations and companies. Many staff members have also actively participated in the law- making process of the government at different levels. Staff members have published over 500 monographs and textbooks and more than 5000 articles. Some of these have been published in foreign languages by renowned international publishers or in leading law journals overseas. Many publications have been awarded prizes by different governmental agencies of both the national and provincial level.
VII. Academic Exchange
The Faculty always attaches importance to domestic and international communication. It has developed a wide range of coopera- tion with many famous overseas universities and research institutes, including the Montreal University, the Erasmus University and the Singapore National University, the Charles Darwin University, the City University of Hong Kong, etc. Joint researches, exchange of academics and students are some of the activities carried out under the cooperation. The Faculty has also enhanced its reputation by holding international forums and conferences. Domestically, the Faculty has developed close relationships with many research institutes and governmental agencies. For instance, it has become one of the major consulting institutes on international law issues for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and on trade and WTO issues for the Ministry of Commerce.

In order to improve the knowledge structure of the students and enliven the atmosphere of scientific researches, it encourages the students to establish academic organizations, holds academic forums periodically, rewards those who excel in study, and frequently invites celebrated experts outside our university to give lectures.

The Faculty is staffed with a team not only with high academic standards but also highly devoted, qualified and cooperative. There are over 40 full-time teachers, including 15 professors, 20 associate professors and 6 lecturers. Most of the staff members are either holders of PhD degree or are candidates for PhD studies. Most of them have studied or visited foreign universities or research institutes.

The international law study of the Faculty was selected as a key discipline of the Ministry of Justice in 1998 and a key discipline of Beijing Municipality in 2002. The award of the key discipline status is very important to Chinese universities, be-cause the Government gives more financial support and other privileges to these key disciplines.
The Faculty always keeps its characteristics of doing research on both international law and many other inter-disciplines and integrating theory with practice. After years of academic accumulation and faculty building, it is not only in the lead domestically but also capable of communicating with foreign scholars in a number of areas of legal research, such as the Law of Seas, International Criminal Law, Shipping Law, WTO law and arbitration law, etc.

The Faculty has undertaken and accomplished quite a number of research projects, having received funding support from a wide range of sources, such as the National Fund for Social Science Study; the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Commerce and different organizations and companies. Many staff members have also actively participated in the law- making process of the government at different levels. Staff members have published over 500 monographs and textbooks and more than 5000 articles. Some of these have been published in foreign languages by renowned international publishers or in leading law journals overseas. Many publications have been awarded prizes by different governmental agencies of both the national and provincial level.

It has developed a wide range of coopera- tion with many famous overseas universities and research institutes, including the Montreal University, the Erasmus University and the Singapore National University, the Charles Darwin University, the City University of Hong Kong, etc. Joint researches, exchange of academics and students are some of the activities carried out under the cooperation. The Faculty has also enhanced its reputation by holding international forums and conferences. Domestically, the Faculty has developed close relationships with many research institutes and governmental agencies. For instance, it has become one of the major consulting institutes on international law issues for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and on trade and WTO issues for the Ministry of Commerce.

Three programs are offered at the Faculty of International Law. Undergraduate students who are enrolled with the Faculty will receive a LLB degree upon graduation. The LLM program of the Faculty started in 1980 and the PhD program of the Faculty started in 1985. Graduate students are enrolled in one of the three Research Institutes of the Faculty for their LLM or PhD studies. At the end of 2005, more than 3000 LLB, LLM and PhD students had graduated from the Faculty. In 2006, the Faculty launched two new programs: LLM in Chinese and Comparative Law and PhD in International and Comparative Law. Both Programs are taught in English and offered to foreign citizens who wish to study Chinese law in English.
At both the undergraduate and graduate level, the Faculty offers a range of courses to all students of the CUPL. These courses include Public International Law, Private International Law, International Economic Law, international Finan- cial Law, Maritime Law, Conflict of Laws within the Greater China area, Principles of Japanese Commercial Law, International Law on Human Rights, International Tort Law, International Contract Law, Law on International Sales and Finance, International Civil Litigation and Arbitration, Introduction to Japanese Law, Comparative Insurance Law, Inter- national Taxation Law, Foreign Investment Law, WTO Legal System and European Union Law, etc.
