From the Director
There¡¯s no boundary to
environmental protection. Environmental protection has become another theme of
the modern world along with peace and development.
The fast developing modern
high technology brings human beings happiness and convenience, while at the
same time it also brings harassment and dangers. It brings damages and
disasters, among which environmental problem has become an unavoidable common
problem that people have to face. To deal with environmental problems that has
posed great threat to the survival and development of human being, to protect
our common home¡ªthe earth effectively, to meet the urgent needs of economic and
legal development, to establish and develop new environmental concepts and
environmental regulations, the Research Center for International Environmental
Law of China University of Politics and Law declared its establishment on Nov.
23rd, 2005 at the call of our times.
The primary task of the
center is to study international legal system of environmental protection,
especially hot issues of international environmental law. Through persistent
and systematic research, we will have keen insight of the tendency of
international legislation on environmental protection. Through active
participation in national legislation, through taking into account the existing
China environmental laws and
regulations, we are to promote the compatibility of China environmental laws and
policies with international law and provide the government with legal advice in
international cooperation and dispute settlement on environmental protection.
Besides, integrated services are also provided by our center for the purpose of
accelerating the spread of environmental protection information and boosting
environmental education.
The vigorous development of
environmental legislation has brought us opportunities as well as challenges.
With famous scholars and personnel that are enthusiastic about international
environmental protection as our members, with our wide and multi-level
cooperation with domestic and overseas universities and colleges, research
institutions, government sections, enterprises and financial institutions, we
are to fully achieve the goal of the center and contribute to the development
of international environmental law. Recently, we have started our project
Research on Hot Issues of International Environmental Law sponsored by Hansheng
Foundation of Culture and Education. Agreements with Sino-Europe Sustainable
Development and Exchange Foundation and Japan Society for the Promotion of
Science on cooperation in research have also been achieved. Presently, some
important projects we are working on include Research on the Songhua River
Pollution Accident in International Law, Research on Protection of Genetic
Resources in International Law, Research on Legal Issues of Bio-diversity
Protection, Resources, Environment and Sustainable Development, Research on
Clean Development Mechanism of Kyoto Protocol, etc.
On behalf of
the Research Center for International Environmental
Law, I sincerely hope that more and more people that are interested in
environmental protection will join us and cooperate with us in the research of
the issues of common concern and that we will get more and more concern and
support from the society. We¡¯d like to express our sincere gratitude and
regards to every person that cares and loves the earth, our common home.
